Under the terms of the agreement, Accelrys' professional services team will design and develop a centralized database to enable data from multiple locations to flow into one database. The system will utilize Accelrys's SciTegic Enterprise Server (SES) platform and will enable the collection, mining and analysis of data with intelligent decision support capabilities in order to accelerate the R&D process.

SES is a client-server platform that streamlines the integration and analysis of data flooding research informatics. According to Accelrys, the oil company will utilize SES to derive greater value from its information resources through enterprise-scale data flow control, data mining capabilities, and reporting.

Mark Emkjer, president and CEO of Accelrys, said: "Our flexible integrated scientific business intelligence solution will better equip our customer to handle its complex high throughput catalysis and discovery business needs. Our technology has traditionally enabled our life-science customers to optimize the use of their scientific data. This agreement further validates our strategy to enable our customers in the oil and gas industry as well as other science-based industries to extract knowledge from their scientific data."

The system is expected to be completed within the next 12 months and is anticipated to result in approximately a million dollars in revenues from software and services.
